Other than the 3 years reading politics at the University of Greenwich in London, Matthew has lived in the Gosport Constituency all his life, mostly in the seaside community of Hill Head, neighbouring Stubbington village. Currently he teaches at a local school.
Matthew, a keen follower of politics around the world, decided to sign up and join the Conservatives the same day the results of the EU referendum were declared, and has been campaigning up and down the country ever since. At university, he worked as a volunteer in CCHQ, donating several hours a week to the party’s telephone canvassing efforts, known now as Ring2Win. He also worked briefly in the party chairman’s office, aiding and assisting the team there with daily correspondence and duties. Matthew has also attended the annual party conference in previous years and hopes to go again with more Young Conservatives from Gosport in the future.
Since returning from London in 2019 with a 1st class honours, Matthew has been keen to get involved with the Gosport Conservative Association. He is a regular attendee of our CPF meetings, and prior to the COVID-19 pandemic he canvassed in the streets to help get the local MP re-elected with an increased majority. Right now, he is working as a mentor with multiple candidates standing for positions in the 2021 local and council elections, assisting with campaign strategy and constructing strong social media profiles for his mentees.
As chairman of the Young Conservatives, Matthew will work hard to mobilise young supporters behind local Conservative candidates and incumbents. He also wants to make our YC branch a more social one, with activities and social events occurring on a regular basis for members to form the close relationships crucial for team cohesion and morale. Matthew is always keen to hear from members, and you can contact him by email at [email protected]
