George is not a ‘professional or experienced local politician’. However, he has been a resident in Gosport for just over forty (45) years and has witnessed many changes with the reduction in the Royal Navy, Naval Base facilities and personnel, lack of jobs, increased traffic, and the problems associated with commuting to work. Over the years he has also witnessed the effects of the Borough Council's political infighting, arguing, promoting self-interests, and spreading disinformation – all of it to the detriment of the people of Gosport. Thankfully, since becoming involved in local politics through the Association (in 2008) the Conservatives have been in control of the Borough Council for most of that period, and in conjunction with the Conservative-led Hampshire County Council and the excellent MP (Caroline Dinenage) they have made Gosport a much better place to live, and this is what must all strive to maintain.
However, in 2022 all that changed when the Liberal Democrats gained control of Gosport Borough Council, and, no doubt, people are aware of the ongoing shenanigans associated with the current administration. The Liberal Democrat Leader is effectively a ’one-band man’ who does not believe in democracy or financial accountability. Economical with the truth, the Council Leader has created a secret society culture within the Council Chamber, and they seem hell-bent on foolishly spending money (Yes, people's money)! A reduction in services, cutting or reducing the funding of major projects, pursuing the ‘Theatre of Dreams (the old Criterion Bingo Hall) and the People’s Park (sounds like a 1960 Eastern European Project) are just some of the’ hair-brained schemes’ that he is promoting.
Only a Conservative-led Borough Council can stop this financial madness and steer through difficult times. He trusts that many people share similar views and will consider voting Conservative in future Borough and County Elections. It is common sense to vote for the only Party that can improve things within the Gosport Peninsula – promoting facts, not fiction as the other Parties often promote! Of course, people could go one better and join the Party, thereby having a say in how things are shaped – see the joining instructions on the Website.
