Gosport MP, Caroline Dinenage has written to the CEO of Network Rail, calling for better rail links from the South of England to London. The local MP has long championed better transport links for the region, and she urged them to look at ways by which they can cut the journey time between Portsmouth and London.
Commenting, Caroline said,
"Commuters in the South get a raw deal – while we've seen investment in huge projects like Crossrail and HS2 for London and the North, journey times between cities in the Solent and the capital are painfully slow."
Caroline recently wrote to every small businesses in her constituency asking them what they thought were the priorities for the area, and the number one concern raised by local firms was transport.
Caroline added,
"An effective and robust transport infrastructure is absolutely vital for our area, and I hope that Network Rail will examine every possible option in trying to cut down journey times."
The letter follows last week's call by the Gosport MP for a debate on the issue in the House of Commons, when Caroline pushed Government ministers for an immediate discussion of the transport infrastructure of the Solent region. It takes longer to travel on the fast train from Portsmouth to London than it does to go from London to Doncaster – a distance over two and a half times as far.
