Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage has continued her campaign to support small businesses by urging local councils to simplify the procurement process for SMEs.
Small businesses across the UK are playing a vital role in the country's economic recovery and can offer their contractors terrific value for money. Caroline is committed to ensuring that these opportunities are harnessed by local authorities as well as central Government, which is why she has written to Councils operating in the local area, calling for them to assess and document their relationship with SMEs.
Speaking in support of SMEs, Caroline said:
"Tackling the unnecessary bureaucracy which is restricting small businesses from accessing government contracts and reaching their full potential must be a priority. Local business owners frequently tell me how overwhelming they find the process of applying for a government contract and having owned a small business for the past twenty years, I fully understand their concerns.
Helping SMEs to increase their chances of obtaining government contracts is essential to promoting the important role they play in our economy. I hope that our local authorities will recognise this and pledge their commitment to supporting small businesses."
Since her election Caroline has championed the cause of SMEs, working hard to encourage enterprise and innovation on the Gosport peninsula. More recently, she was appointed Small Business Ambassador for the south by the Prime Minister.
