Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage is urging people to sign up to the NHS Organ Donation Register, as she hosted an event to promote the 'Pass it On' campaign in Parliament today.
Coinciding with National Transplant Week (8th to 15th July), today's event saw MPs from across the political spectrum come together and show their support for the Donor Register. Having received a kidney from his father, Gosport's very own Luis Gonçalves is spearheading his own campaign to increase the number of MPs on the Register, and made the trip to Westminster with his family to share his experiences.
Speaking after the event, Caroline said:
"Having closely followed Luis' progress, I've been really impressed with his incredible bravery. I can only imagine how difficult it must have been to have gone through dialysis and several operations, but for Luis to battle through all that has been thrown at him at such a young age, he is an inspiration to us all.
With 3 people a day losing their life in the UK because of a shortage of organs for transplant, as MPs it's vital that we use our position to encourage more people to become registered organ donors and I'm delighted to be supporting this worthy cause."
