Local MP, Caroline Dinenage, has today volunteered at the Solent View Medical Practice to help them with their vaccination programme.
Caroline signed up to assist health and social care workers as they continue to vaccinate local constituents and help protect them against coronavirus.
So far, across the country 18.6 million amount have received a vaccine, with Fareham and Gosport administering over 62,000 vaccines. Over 95% of those aged 65 and over in Gosport and Fareham have received at least one jab. The top four priority groups – who represent sadly 88% of those who have lost their lives to corornavirus – have been offered a vaccine.
Caroline commented:
“It was such an honour to volunteer alongside wonderful medical professionals from across our area at Covid 19 vaccine clinic today. While luckily for local residents I was not handed any needles, I was delighted to do my part in assisting in their vital work to protect Gosport Constituents.”
Whether residents are medical professionals or not, they can sign up as a steward volunteer or vaccinator to assist local practices. In addition, Gosport Borough Council are urgently looking for volunteers to work at the COVID-19 Testing Centre at Thorngate Halls.
The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) have also today announced that the next stage of the COVID-19 rollout will be based on age. Once the top 6 priority groups – including those over 50 and clinically vulnerable to COVID-19 – have been offered a jab, then phase 2 will begin starting with those aged 40-49.
The Committee made this decision on the basis that prioritising vaccinations based on occupation would significantly slow down the rate of the programme and where there are those in occupations with a higher exposure risk, evidence shows that those who are affected the most are of an older age.
