The Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Steve Barclay, has announced that businesses forced to close due to targeted or local lockdowns will be able to apply for grants.
The news has been welcomed by Gosport MP, Caroline Dinenage, as cases across Hampshire and the country have risen. Having spoken to concerned businesses across Gosport, Hill Head, Stubbington and Lee-on-the-Solent throughout the pandemic, she is well aware of the financial implications that lockdown has on residents and the local economy.
Caroline commented:
“These grants for businesses affected by local lockdowns are a vital safeguard for Gosport businesses who may have to shut their doors to protect our community if targeted restrictions are imposed.
“Although currently there are no signs that a localised lockdown is necessary at this moment, as cases rise across Hampshire it is reassuring to know that protections are in place.
“I urge all residents to continue to follow the guidance, wash their hands, cover their face in necessary spaces and keep their space.”
Grants of up to £1500 will be available every three weeks. Eligible businesses would have had to close their doors due to local restrictions, with the size of the grant depending on the size of the business.
Chief Secretary to the Treasury Steve Barclay said:
“These grants provide businesses with a safety net as they temporarily close their doors to help save lives in their local areas.
“As local economies eventually and carefully re-open after local interventions, our Plan for Jobs is there waiting to help businesses get back on their feet, protect jobs and thrive in the future.”
