Cllr Mark Hook, Leader of Gosport Borough Council, today had the opportunity to tour Gosport's new Leisure Centre.
Peter Kirkham, Development Manager of DC Leisure said "We estimate half a million visitors a year will use the new centre." He also said "The opportunities for local people will be enormous."
Work continues on the £7.2 million Leisure Centre at Forest Way in Gosport. So far, the indoor pools have been built, and tiling of the changing rooms is underway, as well as the astro-turf pitches constructed.
Mr Kirkham also said that the project is being used as an exemplary scheme by Sport England. This is because of its quality and cost effectiveness.
Cllr Hook said "The old Holbrook centre had around 40 members of staff; but the new one will have 70, seeing 30 new jobs created in Gosport. Additionally, everyone who worked at the old centre is being offered an interview if they apply for jobs at the new Gosport Leisure Centre."
Cllr Hook added "When I was first shown around the inside of the building I was wowed by the size of the centre. I come round every six weeks and it’s amazing how much gets done between each visit. The last time I was here there were no walls - and now it’s all there."
