“Universal Credit has supported many into work. The announcement shows the Government is committed to learning whilst this huge change is undertaken.” Caroline Dinenage MP
Local MP, Caroline Dinenage, has today welcomed news that the Government is scrapping the two child cap for Universal Credits benefiting thousands of families across the country.
Previously, existing claimants who had more than two children before April 2017 would not be supported under Universal Credit.
However, the Government has stepped in with £250 million to ensure that the most vulnerable people continue to receive the support they need.
Commenting Caroline said: “Universal Credit is a welcome change to the complex benefits system inherited from the previous Labour Government.
However it is right that as Universal Credit is rolled out that the policy is continually tweaked to ensure that it is fair. I commend the Government for this very sensible approach benefiting local families in Gosport.”
