With the continued influx of new and existing businesses into the Cooperage Green area of Christchurch Ward, there are now over 40 businesses located in Royal Clarence Marina. This shows excellent confidence in Gosport Borough Council’s intention to further regenerate Royal Clarence Yard to become the ‘go to’ business and leisure venue that we envisaged it should become.
Action as your Councillor
Since 2010 when I became your Councillor it’s been my ambition that Gosport Borough Council is given the MOD retained land at the bottom of Cooperage Green looking out on to Portsmouth Harbour and am pleased that my efforts have been supported by the Council. The Council and I have been lobbying MOD to give us the land, and this is what I hope will be the exciting next step for Royal Clarence Yard:
· 100 metres of quay wall and 45 metres of pier berthing with deep water frontage brought into productive use
· Around 90,000 sq ft of buildings brought back into economic use, most likely to be associated with the key maritime and marine sector
· Four listed buildings restored and brought into use
· Surplus and derelict public land and property brought forward for targeted commercial use
Gosport Borough Council has made clear to MOD that to regenerate this land, we will require an investment of £6.7m to make the existing buildings wind and watertight, and we will also require monies to deal with any land contamination.
Continuing to represent your best interests
With our MP Caroline Dinenage, I have been lobbying Ministers to get the best deal for Christchurch and for Gosport, and continue to represent my residents’ best interests in Council. As a result of my work, the Council last week voted to support my proposal to ensure that the land is used to create jobs for Gosport people, supporting Gosport businesses.
