Local MP, Caroline Dinenage, has been putting Gosport’s best foot forward with Olympic officials this week, attending an important briefing on its education programme, ‘Get Set’. This initiative will make thousands of free tickets available for school children outside London, helping inspire the UK’s next generation of winning athletes. She will also be attending a further meeting on Monday to discuss bringing the Olympic Torch to Gosport.
Speaking after the event, Caroline said, ‘I am really encouraged that children from across the constituency will be given the opportunity to visit the games. I’m calling on schools from across the network to register with the ‘Get Set Network’, if they haven’t done so already. 2012 is an event, not just for London, but for the whole country and I’m eager that as many of Gosport’s young people get the chance to enjoy it as possible.’
It is important for schools to register with the ‘Get Set Network’ as soon as possible. To find out more, and to register for the scheme you can visit Hampshire County Council’s dedicated site,

Following the announcement that the Olympic Torch will pass through the Hampshire area, Caroline is also starting a campaign to make sure it makes its way through the constituency: ‘I think the people of Gosport deserve to see the flame in their neighbourhoods. I will be attending another meeting with Olympic officials on Monday to convince them that our area should be given the opportunity to host the torch.’
