Gosport will once again host the thrills and fun of the Powerboat P1 Grand Prix of the sea in 2015.
Huge crowds gathered at Stokes Bay last September to witness the finale of racing as ten powerboats and around 40 Aqua X jet skis battled it out for the title. On 11th and 12th July they will return to what the P1 Grand Prix organisers described as a “natural amphitheatre”.
In 2014 the two day event also had a funfair, stalls and musical entertainment. It is hoped that this year’s event will see another big turnout from P1 fans and local residents.
Cllr Stephen Philpott, Chairman of Economic Development at Gosport Council welcomed the return of Formula 1 of the sea, “It’s exciting and it’s free to watch. The weekend of spectacular racing will be just part of an amazing programme of marine based events this coming summer.”
On 13th June Gosport’s Waterfront Millennium Promenade and Haslar Marina will be the venue for the Gosport Marine Festival. People of all ages will be able to have a go at a whole host of on-water activities including a food festival and live entertainment.
And later in July massive crowds will descend on Portsmouth and Gosport for the Americas Cup World Series when Sir Ben Ainslie’s team bid for glory.
“The Gosport Marine Festival and P1 Powerboat racing are the perfect way to whet the appetite for what is to come at the end of July”, said Stephen Philpott. “Gosport and Portsmouth really will be the places to be this summer and no one will want to miss a thing – especially as so much of the world class entertainment on our doorstep will be completely free!”
