Local MP, Caroline Dinenage, has warmly welcomed the news today that Titchfield Haven Community Hub have received a £185,977 grant from the Government’s Community Ownership Fund for the acquisition of the Haven site.
In 2022, despite strong opposition from local residents, Hampshire County Council closed the Titchfield Haven Visitor Centre and Haven House. The Titchfield Haven Community Hub group was launched in a bid to save the visitor centre and café, transforming it into a community hub with a cafe and holiday flats.
The financial boost comes as the Business Plan for the acquisition of Haven House has been submitted to Hampshire County Council.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust have also put in their proposal for management of the nature reserve.
Commenting, Caroline said:
“So many local residents were in touch following Hampshire County Council’s decision, heartbroken by the closure.
I am delighted that the Titchfield Haven Community Hub have received Government support to enable them to buy the asset, re-open the cafe as a community hub and bring this building back into use.”
