Local MP Caroline Dinenage last week met with staff from Gosport Basics Bank and Lee-on-the-Solent FISH (Food Information Supply Hope) to learn more about the work they do to support those in need.
Gosport Basics Bank and FISH are Christian organisations working to provide food and essential goods to local people who find themselves in crisis situations. Whilst the Basics Bank offers targeted support for those in urgent need, FISH delivers a regular supply of fresh produce to people facing hard times.
During her visit to the Basics Bank, Caroline was given a tour of the store room and spoke with volunteers about the services they offer. She then joined FISH staff as they delivered produce donated by local supermarkets to some of their regular clients.
Caroline said:
"These two organisations do a fantastic job of helping people in our area who find themselves with nowhere else to turn. I was overwhelmed by the dedication of volunteers and the generosity of the local community."
Since her election, Caroline has been a keen supporter of the Gosport Basics Bank. She has pledged her full support to the organisation and will be offering her expertise to volunteers in order to help them deal with benefits and housing issues which their clients may face.
