MP for Gosport Caroline Dinenage has pledged her support to the Fair Fuel Campaign. On Wednesday she met representatives from the RAC, The Road Haulage Association and the Freight Transport Association to discuss the rising cost of fuel. The Fair Fuel campaign are pushing for the Government to scrap the planned rise in Fuel Duty brought in by the previous Government, and to introduce a fuel stabiliser to keep prices at a steady level in the future.
The Government is currently looking at the possibility of introducing a fuel stabiliser, with the price of oil edging close to $100 per barrel. The Office of Budget Responsibility has been asked to undertake an assessment of the effect of oil price fluctuations on the public finances and the effects that it has on economic growth.
Caroline said ‘I whole heartedly support the Fair Fuel Campaign and I would urge the Government to take measures to tackle the exorbitant cost of fuel at the forthcoming budget. As a business woman and a mother I fully appreciate just what an enormous affect the cost of fuel has on small businesses and hard working families up and down the country.’
