Dame Caroline Dinenage, Member of Parliament for Gosport & former Minister at the Department for Digital & Culture, this week hosted a reception in Parliament to highlight good Equality, Diversity & Inclusion practices in the digital and technology industries.
In partnership with the Parliamentary Internet, Communications and Technology Forum (PICTFOR) All-Party Parliamentary Group, of which Caroline is Co-Chair, the reception gave an opportunity for Members of Parliament and Members of the House of Lords to meet with industry bodies and campaign groups to learn more about the impact of lack of diversity in the sector.
PICTFOR is the largest and most active All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG). The annual Equality, Diversity & Inclusion rally, which sees a number of expert speakers, leaders and educators speak on best practice to improve representation of disabilities, gender, sexuality & ethnicity in the sectors.
Speaking after the event, Caroline said:
“Thank you to PICTFOR for once again holding their annual rally to highlight the progress we need to make to improve equality, diversity and inclusion in the make up of the technology industry.
“It’s shocking to hear how much of the industry is male dominated, and with very little representation of ethnic minorities or the LGBTQ+ community.
“As many of the fascinating speakers put it, the inclusive practices will lead to better business, a flourishing tech sector and improved social mobility- a win all round. Great to hear the perspectives of campaign groups and leaders in the field.”
