Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage and Gosport Mayor Cllr Lynn Hook yesterday helped award a total of £25,000 to local organisations at the HMS Sultan's Charity Cheque Presentation alongside commanding officer Captain Peter Towell.
These funds were raised at the Sultan Summer Show, a hugely popular event that takes place in Gosport every year. At the show, a variety of exciting acts put on spectacular performances. This year, crowds enjoyed monster trucks, the Bolddog Lings Freestyle Motorcross Display Team, and Bob Hogg’s Lamb National and Sheepdog displays as well as music, foods and rides. HMS Sultan are dedicated to putting the money raised from this event to good use throughout the community, supporting local charitable organisations.
This year, the Summer Show raised an amazing £25,000, which was divided up between local voluntary and charity groups. Local recipients included Loud and Proud; Leesland School’s Pool Fund; Scouts Groups and Gosport Men’s Shed.
Speaking after the presentation, Caroline said:
"I was honoured to once again be invited by HMS Sultan to help Captain Towell award cheques to local charities at HMS Sultan's Charity Cheque Presentation, it is one of my favourite events of the year. The Sultan Summer Show, as well as providing a wonderful day out for local families, serves an amazing charitable purpose – delivering vital funds to support local charitable organisations.
We need to celebrate how important HMS Sultan is to the local community and how lucky we are to have so many wonderful voluntary and charity groups in the Gosport Constituency. I would like to take this opportunity to commend our voluntary organisations and all the team at HMS Sultan for making Gosport and Fareham such wonderful places to live."
