Dame Caroline Dinenage, Member of Parliament for Gosport and former Minister for Digital & Culture, has been elected as the Chair of the Culture, Media & Sport Select Committee.
The Select Committee scrutinises the work of the Department for Culture, Media & Sport.
The election took place among MPs, with 383 eligible votes cast. Caroline won with 198 votes.
Caroline has previously served as the Minister of State for Digital at Culture at DCMS from February 2020 until September 2021.
Speaking after the election, Caroline said:
“I am absolutely delighted to be elected Chair of the CMS Select Committee.
“The Culture, Media and Sport sectors are hugely important to all of us, they represent enormous economic value and thousands of jobs. They have a magical ability to unite communities and drive health benefits. And of course, they our strongest card when it comes to soft power.
“I am looking forward to leading the committees work to ensure it maximises the potential of these sectors and holds the government to account in the way that they are both legislated and supported.”
