Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage has confirmed that she will be backing Home Secretary, Theresa May, to become the next leader of the Conservative Party and the next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
Commenting, Caroline said:
"I firmly believe that Theresa May alone can unite our party, stabilise our economy and lead our country at this deeply uncertain time.
"Yesterday, I contacted members of the Conservative Party in the Gosport constituency to ask for any views on who should be the next leader of the Conservative Party. From the responses, one favourite was absolutely clear – Theresa May.
"Many responses outlined Theresa has the aptitude, strength and unrivalled experience to effectively negotiate our exit from the European Union and bring the country together."
Caroline attended Theresa May's campaign launch this morning at the Royal United Services Institute, where May outlined why she believed she should be Prime Minister. She said:
"If ever there was a time for a Prime Minister who is ready and able to do the job from day one, this is it. We have immediate work to do to restore political stability and economic certainty, to bring together the Party and the country, and to negotiate a sensible and orderly departure from the European Union. But more than that, we have a mission to make Britain a country that works not for the privileged and not for the few but for every one our citizens."
