Gosport MP, Caroline Dinenage, marked this year’s Gosport Heritage Open Days by attending some local events.
Gosport ran the first pilot for its Heritage Open Days back in 1992 and has provided quality events every year since.
Last year, over 8 days, there were 79 informative and interesting events that attracted a record 16,701 visits. People came from near and far to explore Gosport and attend the amazing and insightful events.
Due to the Covid-19 restrictions announced this week, all in-person events planned for Gosport Heritage Open Days from the 14th to 20th Sept have been cancelled. However, most in-person events on 11th to 13th Sept will continue as planned.
Caroline first enjoyed the tranquil surroundings at the Haslar Memorial Gardens, which are run by fantastic volunteers and veterans from Shore Leave Haslar. They were selling a range of homemade treats which proved very popular with local punters.
Caroline then took part in a walking tour of the Royal Navy Cemetery, which included a moving history of naval lives lost in war and peacetime.
Commenting, Caroline said:
‘Although this year our Heritage Open Days have been cut short this is again a testament to the fantastic volunteers who make these events such a success every year.
Whether exploring the fantastic homemade treats at Haslar Memorial Gardens or a sobering tour of RN Cemetery, taking in our rich cultural heritage - there are events for all interests and preferences! Huge congratulations to all involved.’
