“These reforms ensure that workers’ rights keep pace with the changing world of work.” Caroline Dinenage MP
Local MP, Caroline Dinenage, has welcomed the biggest package of workplace reforms in 20 years.
Today, the Government announced reforms which take forward recommendations made in Matthew Taylor’s independent review.
These changes mean that:
- Companies have to provide a statement of rights on the first day of someone’s employment which sets out their entitlements to leave and pay.
- Fines for negligent or malicious employers will increase by four times from £5,000 to £20,000. There are also have plans to bring forward a new single labour market enforcement body to crack down on the exploitation of workers.
- Agency staff must always be paid the same as permanent employees – closing a legal loophole which meant this wasn’t always the case.
Commenting, Caroline said:
“The world of work is changing rapidly, bringing new opportunities for innovative businesses whilst creating new jobs across the country which boost our economy.
However, these new reforms will ensure that workers aren’t left behind, ensuring that everyone has the right to fair and decent work.”
