Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage has celebrated the announcement that work on the improvements to Newgate Lane will begin on Monday (20 January).
Since her election, Caroline has worked closely with both Council representatives and her Ministerial colleagues to secure funding and support for local road projects, so hearing that work will finally start is very welcome news.
After months of negotiations, advance preparation work will begin next week with the main contract works set to commence after Easter 2014. The initial stages of the project will involve vegetation clearance followed by the relocation of utility cables and equipment by British Gas and British Telecom.
Commenting on the news, Caroline said:
"Road congestion is a hugely significant issue in our area which is why I am thrilled that work on Newgate Lane will finally get underway next week. Having campaigned tirelessly for change, I hope that this will mark the beginning of widespread improvements to the local road network.
Newgate Lane will become of even greater strategic importance in the coming years as development at the Daedalus Enterprise Zone gains pace. In the meantime, I am delighted that long-awaited change is finally being delivered to those commuting in out of Gosport, Stubbington, Hill Head & Lee-on-the Solent."
The improvement scheme is focused on the section of Newgate Lane from Palmerston Drive to Tanners Lane and includes the provision of a new footway on the west side of Newgate Lane from Tanners Lane southwards to meet the existing footway.
