Local MP, Caroline Dinenage, has marked Colleges Week 2020 by highlighting the fantastic work of colleges and sixth forms across the Gosport Constituency.
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic Caroline has been in regular contact with local colleges, as well as all local schools, to request updates and offer her support where it might be needed.
The colleges in the Gosport Constituency are Fareham College’s CETC and CEMAST Campuses, St Vincent 6th Form College and Bay House Sixth Form. Caroline’s visited Fareham College just last month, when she welcomed the Secretary of State for Education, Gavin Williamson, to open the CETC Campus.
CETC is an innovative collaboration between construction business and Fareham College and offers practical training which means apprentices are ‘work ready’ after an intensive 20 week construction and groundwork apprenticeship course. The college is the brainchild of local businessman Mark Wells of Blanchard Wells. Fareham College’s CEMAST Campus at Daedalus also has 1000 engineering students.
Colleges Week 2020 is a chance to celebrate and shout about all of the brilliant things that colleges do, day in and day out to build communities, boost businesses, and support individuals. It is a partnership between Association of Colleges (AoC), National Union of Students (NUS), Association of College and School Leaders (ASCL), University and Colleges Union (UCU), GMB, TUC, National Education Union (NEU) and UNISON.
Commenting, Caroline said:
‘It’s so important that we recognise the fantastic role colleges play in supporting communities and training our next generation. From Sixth Forms to digger schools – we are so lucky in our local area to have the very best in high quality and diverse further education.’
Colleges Week runs from 19th-23rd October 2020.
