Local MP, Caroline Dinenage, today met organisers from the Royal National Institute of Blind People to hear more about their campaigns and pick up tips on how to better support people with visual impairment in her role as MP in order to become an RNIB Champion!
As part of the RNIB’s #SeeDifferentlyMP campaign, Caroline discussed different ways members of the public, particularly those who use social media, can improve accessibility for the visually impaired. Amongst other things, this included ways to add image descriptions to social media posts, how to make MPs advice surgeries more accessible, and the do’s and don’ts of interacting with guide dogs.
Among others, Caroline met representatives from RNIB David and Michael and their guide dogs Dennis and Mac.
Caroline said:
‘I am honoured to become an RNIB champion, it’s fascinating to learn about the small changes we can all make in our daily lives to improve accessibility for people who are visually impaired.
I am particularly impressed with modifications available for Twitter, which I’m keen to try and use in the future.”
