Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage today spoke up in Prime Ministers Questions at what she called the ‘Unhelpful local party political mischief making over the future of Surestart’.
Welcoming Hampshire County Council proposals to protect all frontline Surestart services, including Family Support Workers, despite saving public money by cutting back office costs. Caroline’s attack was directed at local Liberal Democrat campaigners who seek to make political gain in the run up to May’s elections by playing on peoples fears by making misleading comments about cuts to well loved local Children’s Centres. Caroline said “Surestart is too important and valuable to be used as a political football in this way – Hampshire Council are consulting on their proposals but have pledged to protect all frontline services. I for one will be keeping up the pressure on them, every step of the way, to make sure that they do.”
